Picture this, I was at work discussing a matter with a colleague when my cell phone starts ringing. I excused myself from the conversation, hoping it was the deployed hubby. A lot of times I don't even look at the Caller ID. I've been known to answer the phone with a "Hey babe!" only to find out it was someone else entirely. I guess it's one of those times when the anticipation doesn't match reality.
However, this time I glanced down to see if it was the bazillion digit number signaling an international phone call. Nope. But it said "Washington, D.C." Had a slight panic attack and answered the phone only to hear a recording requesting I participate in a survey.
Really?!
While I hate to receive that kind of call, on my cell phone no less, I was elated to know that it wasn't my husband or his C.O. calling to say something was wrong. I don't know if I've become a pessimist? Or if I was having flashbacks to my brother rushed to Walter Reed during one of his deployments? Or watching your daughter die in your arms makes you lose some sort of innocence?
Two years ago I would have seen a call from DC on caller id and thought it was something political for election support. One things for sure... being a military family changes your perspective.
I think it's time to share.
